Water ConsumptionLast weeks total water consumption by Gosford City and Wyong Shire communities was 498 million litres (ML). This was lower than the current Level 3 consumption target of 552 ML. Consumption was 47 ML less than the previous week and 61 ML less than the same time last year. So far this year we have consumed 2,989 ML of water in our region. This was 80 ML less than the amount consumed by this time last year. This week’s target consumption for the Coast is 550 ML. Dam Storage LevelsTotal dam storage for the week ending Monday 8, February 2010 was 29.1%. This is up on last week’s storage and a decrease on the same time last year when total storage was at 31%. We received 81mm of rainfall at Somersby, 78mm at Mardi and 146mm at Mangrove Creek Dam. So far this year we have received 174mm of rainfall at Somersby, 175mm at Mardi and 244mm at Mangrove Creek Dam. This year Somersby has had 94mm more, Mardi 155mm more and Mangrove Dam 204mm more rain compared to this time last year. Mardi Dam worksEssential upgrade works, including the construction of a new intake tower, two pump stations and new pipelines are currently being undertaken at Mardi Dam. These upgrades are vital for the long term secure operation of Mardi Dam and the Central Coast water supply system. Due to the construction of the new intake tower, the water levels in Mardi Dam are being lowered to a safe level for construction. The work has been timed to coincide with the natural drop in Mardi Dam over the summer months (due to seasonally low streamflows). Levels will return to normal once the work is complete.
