Primary Schools Environment Program and Competition
2009
Gosford City and Wyong Shire councils are again
running exciting programs that offer schools support
for
students to become involved in fun, innovative
and environmentally sustainable projects.
The programs aim to reduce the impact of schools
on the environment whilst increasing student's environmental
awareness.

Local schools
have completed a large number of exciting projects
previous years, including school water and
energy audits, composting, recycling and Waste
Free Lunch Days.
The program is a great opportunity for schools to
work toward implementing their School Environmental
Management Plan and to showcase their efforts to
the community.
Previous competition winner, Wyong Creek Public
School has also won a National Landcare Award for
its hard work.
Every school that chooses to participate wins great
prizes and money to spend on projects such as worm
farms and veggie gardens.
The entry details and theme for this year’s
competition will be in schools soon. For more information
please call 4350 5192.
Gosford City Primary Schools Program
Gosford
Council is developing an exciting theme for the
2009 Environment Program and Competition.
The theme
for 2009 is Leaving Smaller Footprints. This topic
will focus school and student attention on the concept
of an environmental footprint. It
will look at the components that make this footprint
and explore ways in which we can assess our footprint
and reduce it.
Schools participating in the program
this year will receive materials and resources needed
to implement
the program. This will include information, activity
booklets, projects, competitions and staff support.
This
year's theme will provide schools with assistance
in developing and implementing their School Environmental
Management Plan. The program also provides schools
with an opportunity to showcase their efforts in
environmental education
to the community.
There are many prizes to be won
and materials on offer that will assist in the development
of strong
environmental practices in your school.
Details on
this year’s program and competition
will be in schools soon. For more information please

Water Corporation talks positive
The formation of
the Central Coast Water Corporation has taken
a major step forward following a recent
meeting between representatives of Gosford City
and Wyong Shire Councils and the Minister for
Water Utilities Phillip Costa.
The NSW Government has enacted the Central Coast
Water Corporation Act which enables the two Councils
to form a Water Corporation to streamline the decision
making process.
The legislation provides for a more efficient process
than under the existing Joint Water Authority Board
structure.
The legislation was passed but the terms have been
under debate ever since.
However, the recent meeting was very productive,
with the Minister keen to discuss and address both
Councils concerns about the current legislation.
The Minister indicated he was willing to work through
the issues and to make legislative changes to ensure
the Water Corporation was up and running as soon
as practicable.
All parties agreed to form a high level working
party, which will include the General Managers of
both Councils and Mark Duffy, the Director General
of the NSW Department of Water and Energy.
Under the Councils preferred model the Central Coast
Water Corporation would have the task of sourcing
water for the water supply system and making decisions
around water restrictions to ensure the region has
a sustainable water supply for the future.
