Gosford City Council and Wyong Shire Council are each designated as a Water Supply Authority under the Water Management Act 2000.
Our two Councils have a long-standing agreement to construct, operate, maintain and share the cost of the headworks system components serving each Council's water distribution system.

The joint water supply system serves a current urban population of 285,000 people.
Current population projections indicate the system is expected to serve a Central Coast population of approximately 350,000 by 2020. The water supply demand in 2001 was 33,270 megalitres.
Based upon current growth projections, demand will be above 40,000 megalitres a year by 2020.
Management of the Water Supply Scheme
The Gosford/Wyong Councils’ Water Authority Board is responsible for managing all aspects of the headworks water supply system.
This includes forward planning, construction and maintenance of major and minor infrastructure, demand management and financial management.
The water supply scheme is being developed in stages to match increasing demand through population and commercial growth. Consumption is being restrained through demand management activities introduced for this purpose.
Staged development enables the cost burden to be equitably shared across generations and for the Board to respond to changing community needs and aspirations.
Delayed installation of infrastructure reduces costs and provides the benefits gained from the latest technology.
