The Secondary Schools Regional
Water Education Program
Public schools are required to look at their
water management and education with students
under the NSW Schools Environmental Education
Policy through School Environmental Management
Plans (SEMPs).
Gosford City and Wyong Shire Councils are
jointly involved in the Secondary Schools
Regional Water Education Program. The aim
of the project is to
- Educate students from Stage 4 –
6 (Yr 7 – 12) about water consumption,
conservation and management
- Educate schools and their communities
on catchments and sustainability
- Help reduce schools water consumption
- Provide professional development opportunities
for teaching staff
- Provide resources and support in teaching
materials
As a part of this program an interactive
water education website is being developed
with the help of Central Coast teachers
and students.
Water Education Website
The new website provides curriculum
relevant information on water and the environment
for secondary students on the Central
Coast.
It contains an interactive section
that allows students and other users to
upload their own data on topics like rainfall,
water consumption and results of monitoring
of schools consumption through water audits.
A wide range of water experiments, educational
games, crosswords and puzzles and flash
movies showing how the water cycle works
will also be available.
